Cobweb Night & Spider Season

Happy Cobweb Night & Spider Season! 🐹 🧡 🖤 🧡 🎃 🕷️🕸️

Although not all of us are particularly fond of the creepy crawlies, spare a thought for Charlotte—one of children’s literature’s friendliest and most famous spiders, who certainly knew how to appreciate her piggy friends!

In E. B. White’s Charlotte’s Web, clever Charlotte uses her remarkable webs to save Wilbur the pig, spinning messages such as “Some Pig” above his pen. 🐷 🕸️

October is peak spider season, when webs and their occupants suddenly seem to be everywhere. Many spiders are especially noticeable at this time of year as they mature and search for mates—all while providing some wonderfully cobwebby Hallowe’en decorations free of charge!

Even October’s name fits the eight-legged theme: it comes from the Latin octo, meaning eight, because October was originally the eighth month of the early Roman calendar.

So perhaps give that spider in the corner a little more respect this month. After all, it might have something nice to say about the guinea pigs. 😁
